I have just received the results of our recent energy survey from E.ON and have found it very interesting. Part of the findings gave solutions which were quite straightforward and reminded us of the common sense approaches that we have to have to many issues. It does not have to be rocket science, but simply changing the culture of the office and reminding people to try to behave in a different way can have a real impact.
There were other things that we discussed which involve some investment such as changing the lighting control systems. Some things cost significantly more, such as changing the heating system. It was good to see just what savings could be made on our tariff which gives a great indication of how much we should spend on the building. With the building being destroyed for a new development in a couple of years time, we are limited to what we should actually do to make sense of trying to make savings.
Two things which I found very interesting with the energy survey were:
a) the time which was spent on working out what actually made SENSE for us to do.
b) The discussions we had about how we could make our new offices much more environmentally friendly. Many of the suggestions would have minimum cost implications if they were integrated into a new building, whereas retrofitting does not necessarily make sense.
