People Power

People Power

As Ellen is learning more about sustainability, a really key area that keeps coming to the forefront is people. Technology is undoubtedly a major factor in bringing about change, and in this context allowing us to investigate new ways to produce and manage energy, but unless you have inspired people to embrace these changes then maximum savings will not be realised.

This was really evident when Ellen opened a new E.ON office in Coventry; the new building has bought together teams from a number of sites to service the majority of business customers from one location. This cuts the need for travel but has also meant E.ON can challenge the employees of ‘Greenwood’ to collectively take responsibility for the energy that is used in the building.

And this is a challenge they are enthusiastically embracing having over the past year reduced the amount of waste, increased the amount of recycling and benefited from a large scale car sharing scheme. This is where significant savings can be made without having to invest in new technologies, an issue many business tenants face.

Over the summer Ellen will be working with E.ON to look at ways of motivating employees to make changes and all take responsibility for the future of this planet.
